The 5th annual awards honor the products, concepts, companies, policies and designs that are pursuing innovation for the good of society and the planet.

Austin, TX – May 4, 2021 Interplay Learning, the leading global provider of online and VR training for the essential skilled trades, announced today that it won Honorable Mention in three categories of Fast Company’s 2021 World Changing Ideas Awards. The awards honor the businesses, policies, projects and concepts that are actively engaged and deeply committed to pursuing innovation when it comes to solving health and climate crises, social injustice or economic inequality. Interplay Learning and its Command Center — a customizable dashboard designed to assess, train and manage an essential skilled trade workforce, all in one place — was awarded Honorable Mention in the Education, General Excellence and On the Rise categories.

The Command Center dashboard provides a comprehensive, at-a-glance view into an HVAC, plumbing or electrical technician’s skill level, training progress and field-readiness. It enables companies to send the right tech on the right job, the first time. A technician’s skill level can be assessed, at any time, through competency-based assessments and field-like troubleshooting simulations. This provides quick identification of strengths and weaknesses, allowing for assignment of expert-led, on-demand courses in HVAC, electrical and plumbing to target skills gaps. Assignment status is easily monitored and technicians benefit from custom learning paths. Email notifications send key information about a technician’s learning progress to a supervisor’s inbox. As a first-of-its-kind solution, Command Center lets companies manage hundreds of employees, at varying levels, across multiple locations, while improving the bottom line with a highly effective and efficient training program. Callbacks are minimized and retention rates increase, while the employee’s career growth is promoted.

Now in its fifth year, the World Changing Ideas Awards showcase 33 winners, more than 400 finalists, and more than 800 honorable mentions. A panel of eminent Fast Company editors and reporters selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 4,000 entries from across the globe in transportation, education, food, politics, technology and more. Interplay Learning joins some of the world’s most inventive entrepreneurs and companies tackling exigent global challenges, and they will be highlighted in Fast Company’s Summer 2021 issue.

“We’re honored to win such competitive Fast Company awards in three categories as we continually create world-changing solutions at Interplay,” said Doug Donovan, Founder and CEO of Interplay Learning. “This award reaffirms our commitment to deliver on our vision that better careers mean better lives. I’m proud of our team’s passion for developing world-class Comersive Learning solutions for the essential skilled trades, and we look forward to sharing our newest innovations in 2021.”

“There is no question our society and planet are facing deeply troubling times,” said Stephanie Mehta, Editor-in-Chief of Fast Company. “So, it’s important to recognize organizations that are using their ingenuity, impact, design, scalability and passion to solve these problems. Our journalists, under the leadership of senior editor Morgan Clendaniel, have discovered some of the most groundbreaking projects that have launched since the start of 2020.”
