The largest owner of military housing is partnering with the largest provider of online skilled trades training to create comprehensive, career-track training for service technicians nationwide.

Austin, TX – August 12, 2020 – This month, Hunt Military Communities is joining with Interplay Learning to provide digital skilled trade training for the company’s 600 service technicians.

With around 52,000 homes on more than 40 military installations across the country, Hunt sees this as an opportunity to offer their service technicians industry-relevant training and create a skills-ladder career path. For several years Hunt has been focused on providing industry-leading learning and development for technicians. This partnership marks a decisive move towards a universal training standard and increased opportunities for advancement within the company.

Hunt will use Interplay Learning HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and appliance repair training as part of a two-year customized, learning plan for service technicians. “It can be difficult to find industry-specific content for maintenance,” explains Clara Abalos, Director of Learning & Development at Hunt. “So when we started to see that Interplay Learning was expanding their catalog and growing more content in that direction, it became an exciting option for us.” After a successful initial pilot, Hunt recognized that Interplay’s hands-on style of virtual training could continue to develop well-rounded skills for their technicians.

As Interplay Learning moves into the multi-family market, Doug Donovan, CEO of Interplay Learning, views the partnership with Hunt as a significant milestone. “We’re looking forward to seeing the results of standardized, job-relevant training on the company’s technical workforce. We hope to see a higher employee retention rate and an overall increase in technical skills bring great value to Hunt, its tenants, and service technicians.”

“The key objective of this initiative is to provide service and quality maintenance to our residents as well as building human capital,” Abalos says. “This has been something near and dear to us, to develop and invest in our people. Giving them the tools to be empowered and successful is a top priority for us.”

Training will be rolled out in September across all of Hunt’s military community locations and will be overseen by local maintenance directors. The two largest locations with the most technicians will be launching pilot programs featuring virtual reality training in a classroom setting. Hunt intends to bring VR training to most of its sites in 2021.
