What are continuing education units (CEU)?

Show employers your skills are current with CEUs.

Continuing education is required for technicians to stay current with the latest development, skills, and new technologies required in your field. When you complete a course on SkillMill, you can also earn continuing education units (CEU). Currently, we offer CEUs for NATE (North American Technician Excellence) and IACET (International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training). If you have already passed your NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) exam, you can use SkillMill solar courses for recertification and renewal.

After you’ve completed a qualifying course, you can download the completion certificate and attach that to your certification application.

  • NATE - Certification must be renewed every two years. Renewal requires either submitting 16 continuing education units every 2 years or retaking the specialty exam before the end of the two-year certification period.
  • IACET - They are recognized by a wide range of organizations, including professional associations, regulatory boards, corporations, and universities. IACET CEUs are transferable; however, it is up to each organization to choose whether or not it will accept the CEUs. For this reason, it is strongly advised that individuals and/or organizations confirm in advance if a particular body accepts IACET CEUs before taking a particular training course.
  • NABCEP - You can only use the CEUs for NABCEP recertification and renewal.
